Luxury Villa Rentals Koh Samui | Nearly 10,000 tourists welcome 2012 in Phangan

Thousands of foreign tourists took part in the Countdown to 2012 held at the Had Rin beach, site of the world-famous monthly Full Moon Party, and at the Pet Ratana Marina Pier, both on Koh Phangan, in the evening of Dec. 31.

Samui District Chief Prasert Jitmoong took part in the jubi- lant New Year’s Eve celebrations by attending the party at the Pet Ratana Marina Pier.
He was joined by other offcials from Koh Phangan and Koh Samui.
At Had Rin beach, close to 10,000 people welcomed the New Year with all-night party- ing and other fun activities.

Local tourism officials said Phangan’s New Year count- down, a project of the local business community, could have brought millions of baht to both islands.

All hotels and guest houses on Koh Phangan, they said, were fully booked that evening. Hundreds of locals from Samui and other nearby provinces also joined the Phangan celebrations.

Days before the Koh Phangan event, Mr. Prasert ordered Koh Samui’s harbor offcer, Mr. Prawes Supachai, to check all passenger boats plying between Samui and Koh Phangan to ensure their seaworthiness.

The district chief wanted to ensure that no untoward incident would happen during the celebrations, which he also expected to draw no less than 5,000 tourists from other parts of the world to drop by Koh Samui on their way to Phangan.
